Facebook Acrylic Pouring Paint Challenge – Planet Unknown

Today, I took the Facebook Acrylic Pouring Paint Challenge – Planet Unknown. I call it Planet Unknown because several of my abstract pour paintings as of late look planet-like. As to the challenge today, there were four reference photos and I was assigned image #2 as shown below…

I knew right out of the gate that I would need to prepare several acrylic paint colors for pouring. Aqua, dark green, light green, yellow, red and black. I am sorry but I am unable to show you my first attempt. Why? I never got a photograph and it was so horrendous that I scraped the paint off the canvas and completely started over.

However, if you look at the bottom right corner of my art shown below, you will see some of the paint (swirls) from the first canvas. I caught these drips of paint in a bowl as I tilted the first canvas and was able to re-pour some of it back onto the canvas again during my second try.

I ended up with a planet-looking piece of art that included a variety of little craters (cells)…

I shared my art in the Facebook group and received a kind comment. Breaking news, I just learned that the challenge was started by a rogue moderator who has now been banned from the acrylic pouring group! I guess you can’t just start a group challenge when you’re not actually a moderator for the group. Note to self…..never do that!

Ironically, I recently painted two other art pieces that also look somewhat planet-like. The first one, I’ve named Plenty Good Pink since it reminds me somewhat of Good n’ Plenty candy.

As to the next piece, I’m not sure where I was going with it but before I knew it, I was embellishing some strange black THING that looked like a wild, alien creature. I’ve named it Space Splash….

Have I mentioned how much fun it is too paint like this? No matter how I prepare, no matter what I have in mind, I NEVER really know what the end result will be! That’s half the fun.

The paintings above are on stretch canvas (unframed). If you are interested in purchasing any of my work, please email me at avante@neo.rr.com or click on the links shown above.
